Description

If you drink coffee, don't drink Black Gold Blend. Just one sip plunged Gregor into a kaleidoscopic world where he lost his memory, encountered a dung-smoking demon, transmogrified into the grotesque Hectic Norder, plummeted into the gullet of a talking tree, wondered through an inescapable labyrinth, met a man comprised of office paper, committed murder, leaped off a building...Well, at least he found the solution to our world's energy crisis - and you will too in Mandelbrot the Tree.

I derived the title and inspiration for this work from the mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot. His conception of the fractal informs my novel's avant-garde structure. I used the fractal's fundamental characteristic of self-similarity as a model of organization. The story branches from seven main OFFSHOOTS into Roots and rootlets. I intentionally repeat many of the images, but always in fresh contexts to give the reader new perspective on old ideas.
